The 2022 Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine Sur Lie 'Les Gautronnières' from Bonnet-Huteau is a cracking Loire white that flies under the radar but over-delivers in spades. Grown in the heart of the Sèvre-et-Maine appellation, just south of Nantes, this Muscadet hails from organic and biodynamic vineyards rooted in mica-schist and gneiss soils—perfect for producing wines with a lean, mineral edge.
Bonnet-Huteau, run by brothers Jean-Jacques and Vincent, is a family estate with over 40 hectares under vine, championing low-intervention methods and old-vine Melon de Bourgogne. The 2022 vintage saw a dry, sunny spell followed by well-timed rain, giving the grapes excellent balance and ripeness.
On the nose: lemon zest, sea spray and subtle white flowers. The palate is bone-dry, with a creamy texture from lees ageing ("sur lie") and a salty, stony finish. Ideal with oysters, moules marinières, or even classic fish and chips. A true seaside-in-a-glass sipper.
