Nestled in Burgundy’s sunny south lies Mâcon‑Igé, a charming appellation in the Mâconnais known for its chalky, east‑facing slopes and a climate that's delightfully balanced—warm but tempered by cooling influences. Here, the Bret Brothers—Jean‑Guillaume and Jean‑Philippe—craft this gem. They launched their négociant venture in 2001 alongside their family estate, Domaine de la Soufrandière, pioneering organic and biodynamic practices in the region.

The 2022 vintage hails from old vines (20–30 years) planted 220 m up on a 20 % slope—chalky soil, full east sun, often with Mont Blanc on the horizon. Hand‑harvested, it undergoes whole‑cluster pressing, native yeast fermentation, then matures for 11 months with 20 % in 228 L oak barrels and 80 % in stainless steel, with minimal sulphur (50 mg/L)

On the nose, expect delicate florals with fresh nectarine, acacia, almond and gentle peach, leading into a crisp, chiselled palate—refined, balanced and vivacious. One reviewer calls it "minerality, citrus and growing sweet apple the longer it stays open... livelier and fresher than your average Mâcon".

Food pairing? Think carpaccio of sea bass with yuzu pearls and burrata, grilled fish, shellfish platters, or creamy poultry dishes. For cheeses, delicate goat, mild Comté, or fresh goat omelettes are brilliant partners.

In just 150 words, we see a wine that’s expressive, vibrant and true to its terroir—fun yet serious about quality.
