Hailing from the vineyards around the medieval hillside town of Montalcino — a cherished corner of Tuscany known for dry, warm summers and well-drained soils rich in limestone, marl and schist — this Rosso is a vivid expression of terroir. The grapes, 100% Sangiovese, come from two parcels: the south-west facing Podernovone at 500 m altitude and the cooler, north-east facing Le Chiuse di Sotto — a combo that balances sun-ripened fruit with elegance.

After an 18-day maceration and some 10 months ageing in large Slavonian oak casks, this 2023 delivers a medium-bodied, lively red with fine acidity and poised tannins. On the nose: fresh cherries and cranberries, a hint of wild-herb earthiness and maybe a touch of leather or tobacco — classic Sangiovese freshness. On the palate: bright red fruit, rounded but precise, with a subtle savoury undercurrent and a nicely dry, persistent finish.

It’s easy to drink now, but will hold nicely for another few years. For pairing — that Tuscan landscape calls for rustic rusticity: think pasta with ragù, grilled lamb, aged pecorino or rich casseroles.
