From one of Barbaresco’s most revered traditionalists comes a rare gem: Roagna’s Langhe Bianco 2019. This wine is made from old-vine Chardonnay and a touch of Nebbiolo Bianco (an obscure local clone), grown in the limestone-rich soils of Pajé in the Langhe hills. The site’s cool microclimate and steep slopes bring freshness and finesse to the fruit, while extended élevage (often 2+ years in large neutral oak) adds remarkable depth.
2019 was a stellar vintage in Piedmont—long, moderate, and structured—allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. Roagna vinifies the Bianco much like his Barbaresco: native yeasts, long macerations (yes, even for whites!), and no fining or filtration.
The result is a textured, complex white with notes of preserved lemon, dried herbs, wildflowers and a chalky minerality. It’s almost Burgundian in structure, yet unmistakably Langhe in soul.
