The 2019 Barbaresco ‘Manzola’ from Nada Fiorenzo is a classic expression of Nebbiolo from the hills of Treiso, one of Barbaresco’s key communes in Piemonte’s Langhe region. The Manzola vineyard sits at around 230–240 metres above sea level with a sunny southwest exposure and calcareous-clay soils that help retain freshness while allowing for full ripening. Nada Fiorenzo is a small, family-run estate with around 10 hectares under vine. The winery, now managed by Danilo Nada, continues a tradition of minimal intervention both in the vineyard and the cellar, ageing this Barbaresco for 24 months in large Slavonian oak and a further 6 months in bottle before release.
The 2019 vintage brought balanced conditions — a warm summer with cool nights that delivered ripe fruit and vibrant acidity. In the glass, the wine shows a delicate garnet colour with classic aromas of rose petals, red cherry, wild herbs and subtle spice. The palate is structured and savoury, with firm but refined tannins and a long, mineral finish. It’s a wine built for ageing, but also beautifully drinkable now with the right food. Pair it with roast lamb, braised veal, mushroom polenta or aged cheeses like Taleggio or Castelmagno. Decanting an hour before serving at around 18 °C will help it open up beautifully.
