The 2022 Bisamberg Gemischter Satz comes from the prestigious Bisamberg vineyard, a steep site on the outskirts of Vienna, just east of the Danube. The soils here are composed of sandy loess over massive limestone sub‑soil: light, calcareous, which gives lift and finesse to the wines. Wieninger took over this vineyard in 2012 and farms it biodynamically, with vines roughly 40 years old.

This field blend is made up of Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc, ~40%), Grauburgunder (Pin Gris, ~40%) and Chardonnay (~20%), all harvested together, fermented on spontaneous yeasts in stainless steel, then bottled in spring 2023. The vintage saw a long winter, late budburst, good dry and warm summer, fairly mixed September but harvest ended around 20th October. Overall yields were good, quality high.

On the nose: candied orange zest, ripe yellow tropical fruits, hints of honey, fresh apple, perhaps a soft smokiness.  On the palate: full‑bodied yet elegant, lively acidity, mineral backbone, an elegant texture and a persistent, slightly fruity finish. Very drinkable now, with ageing potential.

As for food pairings: this wine is superb with seafood (grilled fish, shellfish), lighter poultry dishes, creamy but not heavy pastas (think mushrooms or delicate sauces), or vegetarian Mediterranean fare. The acidity and minerality balance richer flavours nicely. Serve cooled, around 10‑12 °C, to let the aromatics shine.
