Nestled along the steep, slate‑clad slopes of the Central Mosel near Sankt Aldegund, Weingut Stein is a traditional family concern with roots going back to the 17th century. Heinrich Stein, after returning from the war, focused their efforts (from about 1947) on the Palmberg vineyard, one of the more dramatic terraced sites. These are old vines—many 70‑80 years old, some even over a century on free‑standing rootstock. Farming is manual, without synthetic chemicals, and the cellar work is hands‑off: spontaneous (native) ferments, low levels of sulphur, etc.

In the 2024 vintage, the Traubenflüsterer is a Trocken dry Riesling, lightly aged for about six months in a combination of stainless steel and large neutral barrels. Alcohol is modest (~10–10.5 %), making this an elegant, refreshing style rather than heavy.

On the nose you might pick up yellow fruit (think ripe orchard pears, yellow apple, maybe a touch of peach), mingled with a stone’s slate minerality. On the palate there’s crisp acidity, clean citrus backbone, and a mouthwatering slate‑led mineral note that gives that tell‑tale Mosel bite without being aggressively tart. The finish is light and fresh, with good energy and elegance.

As for food pairings: this is a superb go‑to with oysters or shellfish, where the acidity cuts through briny richness. Also excellent with seafood salads, soft cheeses (e.g. goat’s cheese), or even a light risotto with shellfish. For something heartier, it might partner nicely with gently spiced Asian cuisine that can play off its freshness without overwhelming.
