The 2023 Lapilli Falanghina Beneventano hails from Benevento in Campania, southern Italy — a region that enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate, tempered by altitude and occasional breezes which help preserve freshness. The vineyards are planted on south‑east facing slopes, between about 250‑300 metres above sea level, with vines roughly 15 years old. The producer, Lapilli, was established in 1996 and works with small local communes in and around Avellino, placing strong emphasis on indigenous grapes and respecting terroir.
In 2023, the harvest falls in the second half of September to early October; the wine is fermented in stainless steel and spends about three months on its lees before bottling. In the glass it is a pale straw yellow; on the nose you might find tangy citrus (lemon, perhaps grapefruit), softer tropical fruit hints – pineapple, maybe white peach – plus very fresh white flowers. On the palate it shows lively acidity, good balance, refreshing, with a clean, crisp finish.
As for what to pop it with: this wine shines as an aperitif, naturally. It pairs beautifully with shellfish (oysters, mussels), delicate fish dishes, white meats, or fresh mild cheeses. It also goes well with light vegetarian fare — think grilled vegetables or summer salads. Serve it chilled, around 10‑12°C, to highlight its fresh fruit and crisp edges.
