José Gil, a dynamic winemaker from Rioja, pioneers a new era in winemaking, crafting elegant wines from ancient vineyards in Rioja Alta. Raised in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, José learned his trade at Bodegas Olmaza.
After training in Burgundy and the Mosel, José launched his own venture in 2011, starting with 2 hectares and expanding to 8 hectares of organic old-vine Tempranillo, with small plantings of Garnacha, Viura, and Palomino.
‘San Vicente de la Sonsierra,’ is aged for 10 months in José’s hillside cellar, celebrates Tempranillo’s pure fruit with Burgundian finesse, avoiding new oak influence. José’s 2022 vintages have received high acclaim, solidifying his status as one of Rioja’s most sought-after winemakers.
