Château Durfort-Vivens 2003 is classic Margaux: an elegant Second Growth from Bordeaux’s Médoc, where gravelly soils help Cabernet Sauvignon ripen beautifully while retaining freshness. The 55-hectare estate, owned by the Lurton family and led by Gonzague Lurton since 1992, produces roughly 200,000 bottles annually, with vines averaging around 50 years old. The hot, dry 2003 vintage produced a rich, concentrated style, here blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Expect aromas of cassis, red cherry, violet, cedar, tobacco, mushroom and warm spice, with supple tannins and a savoury finish. Pour it with roast lamb, beef Wellington, duck or mature Cheddar.
