The 2007 Montagne Saint-Émilion from Maison Blanche is a beautifully mature Right Bank Bordeaux from one of the region’s quietly revered organic estates. Maison Blanche, located just north of Saint-Émilion proper, has been farming biodynamically since the early 2000s, focusing on low yields and minimal intervention. The clay-limestone soils here are perfect for Merlot, which dominates the blend, with a touch of Cabernet Franc adding lift and structure.
2007 was a cooler, earlier-ripening vintage, and while not as showy as the blockbusters either side, it’s ageing gracefully. In the glass, you’ll find soft plum, dried cherry, and earthy notes of leather, cedar, and forest floor. The tannins have mellowed into a silky, savoury frame, offering a wine that’s all about elegance and subtlety.
Perfect alongside mushroom stroganoff, roast duck, or a hearty lentil and walnut loaf—it’s a contemplative, fireside claret that rewards unhurried drinking.
