2014 Vouvray Clos Naudin Sec – Philippe Foreau, Loire Valley
From the limestone-rich slopes of Vouvray, the 2014 Clos Naudin Sec by Philippe Foreau is a masterclass in precision and poise. Foreau is a third-generation grower, with just 11.5 hectares under vine, and has been crafting Chenin Blanc of uncompromising quality since taking over in 1983. The domaine works organically, though not certified, with minimal intervention and no malolactic fermentation to preserve purity.
2014 was a stellar vintage in the Loire – cool but dry, ideal for Chenin’s racy structure and complex aromatics. In the glass, this wine delivers vibrant notes of green apple, lemon zest, crushed chalk and lanolin, with a laser-like acidity and mineral backbone that could carry it for decades.
Pair it with goats’ cheese tart, grilled sole, or even sushi – its energy cuts clean through richer dishes too. A wine that’s both cerebral and seriously drinkable. Classic Vouvray at its most elegant.
