The 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Les Brouillards from Domaine Georges Glantenay is a quintessential expression of Volnay's elegance and depth. Situated in the Côte de Beaune, Volnay is renowned for producing some of Burgundy's most refined Pinot Noir wines. Les Brouillards, the estate's largest Premier Cru holding at 1.1 hectares, lies adjacent to Pommard and benefits from the area's unique terroir of clay-limestone soils and a favourable south-facing slope.
The 2015 vintage was exceptional, characterised by a warm growing season that resulted in wines of concentration and balance. This cuvée, crafted from 55-year-old vines, includes 30% whole bunch fermentation, contributing to its aromatic complexity and structure.
Tasting notes reveal a wine of notable depth and finesse. The nose offers aromas of red and black cherries, complemented by hints of bitter chocolate, woodsmoke, and earthy minerality. On the palate, it presents a concentrated yet refined profile with juicy fruit, well-integrated tannins, and a lingering finish.
This wine exemplifies the classic elegance of Volnay, offering both immediate pleasure and the potential for further development with age.
Pairs with dishes like duck confit, beef wellington or a truffle risotto.
