2015 Viña Gravonia, Crianza, Bodegas R.López de Heredia - Rioja, Spain

The 2015 Viña Gravonia Crianza from Bodegas R. López de Heredia is a brilliant showcase of old-school Rioja craftsmanship. Hailing from the Rioja Alta region, this 100% Viura white is grown in the Gravonia vineyard, just 200 metres from the winery in Haro, on alluvial-clay soils that help retain acidity and freshness in the grapes. The estate, founded in 1877, remains in the López de Heredia family and is known for its meticulous, hands-off winemaking – think four years in old American oak barrels, natural clarification with egg whites, and long ageing before release.

The 2015 vintage is expressive and elegant, with aromas of orange zest, dried flowers, chamomile, and a touch of vanilla and nuttiness from oxidative ageing. On the palate, it’s creamy yet lively, with a saline, savoury finish. Food-wise? Try it with salt cod, tapas, grilled vegetables, or even a Sunday roast – it's a white with backbone and soul.
