The 2019 Trebbiano d’Abruzzo from Valentini is not just a wine – it’s a legend in a bottle. Hailing from the rugged hills of Abruzzo on Italy’s Adriatic coast, this white breaks every preconception about Trebbiano. The Valentini estate, run by the elusive Edoardo Valentini until his death in 2006, and now by his son Francesco, produces wines with fanatical attention to detail – only about 20,000 bottles a year across all wines.
The 2019 vintage shows remarkable depth and complexity: a golden hue, with aromas of lemon oil, fennel, and sea spray, followed by a layered palate of orchard fruit, almond, and a saline minerality that speaks to the calcareous clay soils. Fermented in old oak with native yeasts and aged for years before release, it’s built for ageing.
Pair with grilled turbot, lobster pasta, or mature pecorino. This is Trebbiano – but not as you know it.
