The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin from Marchand-Tawse is a refined expression of Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy's most esteemed villages. This wine is crafted by a collaboration between Canadian entrepreneur Moray Tawse and renowned winemaker Pascal Marchand, known for his tenure at Domaine Comte Armand and La Vougeraie. The estate, established in 2010, spans both negociant and domaine operations, producing wines from various Burgundy appellations.
The 2020 vintage in Gevrey-Chambertin was marked by a warm growing season, resulting in wines with ripe fruit profiles and balanced acidity. This cuvée is a blend from eight parcels, including Roncevie, La Justice, Clos Prieur Bas, and Combes, situated in the Côte de Nuits. The wine underwent 20% whole cluster fermentation and was aged in 20% new oak barrels, contributing to its complexity without overpowering the fruit character.
Tasting notes reveal a wine with a deep ruby hue and an expressive nose of red and black fruits, complemented by subtle earthy and floral nuances. On the palate, it offers a medium-bodied structure with ripe tannins and a fresh, lingering finish. The wine's balance and depth suggest it will continue to evolve gracefully with age.
Ideal pairings include roast duck, grilled game birds, or a selection of aged cheeses, which complement its structure and depth
