From Rochefort-sur-Loire in Anjou Noir, the 2020 Les Rouères showcases Chenin Blanc with serious personality. Its nearly 3-hectare, south-eastern-facing parcel sits on lean, heat-retaining puddingstone, giving the wine a sunny richness balanced by a distinctive, mouth-watering bitterness. Created by Ivan Massonnat in 2018, Domaine Belargus farms 24 hectares entirely to Chenin, with a biodynamic approach and a meticulous single-parcel philosophy. The 2020 vintage was warm, dry and beautifully balanced, producing ripe yet fresh fruit. Expect peach, pear, apricot, honey, smoke and mineral notes, with lovely tension. Pair with roast chicken, salmon, creamy cheeses or a pear tart.
