From Oregon’s Eola-Amity Hills, the 2021 Kelley Fox Wines Carter Vineyard Pinot Noir is a characterful expression of place. Carter Vineyard sits at around 325 feet on a south-facing slope, with volcanic, Nekia-like Jory soils and thin topsoil. Its Wädenswil and Pommard vines were planted on their own roots in 1983 and are organically farmed. Winemaker Kelley Fox, who has made Oregon Pinot Noir since 2000, picked this vintage on 19 September, using 30% whole clusters and 10 months in neutral French oak. Expect strawberries, marionberries, dusty cherry, lavender, spice, minerals and saline freshness. Lovely with roast duck, mushroom risotto or pork.
