Kallstadt sits in the Mittelhaardt, the celebrated heart of Germany’s Pfalz, where the Haardt hills shelter vineyards from rain and sandstone meets limestone, giving Riesling both warmth and mineral drive. Koehler-Ruprecht, a historic estate now run by Dominik Sona and Franziska Schmitt, farms around 12.5 hectares and is known for traditionally made, characterful wines. The hot, dry 2022 vintage brought concentration, though September rain demanded careful harvesting. This dry Kabinett is juicy and energetic, with ripe pear, citrus, honey, floral hints and a gently chalky, savoury finish. Try it with smoked trout, roast pork, sushi, Thai dishes or creamy goat’s cheese.
