Hailing from the rolling hills of Piemonte’s Colli Tortonesi, the 2022 Bricco San Michele Timorasso by Claudio Mariotto is a stonking example of this rare, rediscovered grape. Timorasso, once nearly extinct, thrives in these limestone-rich soils, where warm days and cool nights coax out its trademark texture and verve. Claudio Mariotto is a champion of the variety, tending 27 hectares of vines, and has been pivotal in bringing Timorasso back to the spotlight.
The 2022 vintage was warm but balanced, producing a wine of serious structure. Expect citrus peel, quince, and wild herbs on the nose, with a palate that’s textured and mineral-driven, finishing with a subtle saline snap. It’s got the bones to age, but also sings now.
Brilliant with roast chicken, aged cheeses or even crab linguine — it’s a thinking drinker’s white, and something different for lovers of Burgundian whites or serious Chenin.
