2022 Gattinara, Azienda Franchino

The 2022 Gattinara from Azienda Franchino comes from the small town of Gattinara in northern Piedmont, where Nebbiolo – locally known as Spanna; grows in volcanic, iron-rich soils at the foothills of the Alps. These unique soils give the wines elegance, minerality and structure. Azienda Franchino is a small, traditional estate founded in 1940 and now run by Alberto Raviciotti, farming around three hectares of old Nebbiolo vines. The 2022 vintage shows aromas of rose, red cherry and gentle spice, with bright acidity and firm tannins. It pairs well with mushroom risotto, braised beef, game dishes and mature cheeses.
