From Tuscany’s hilltop Montalcino comes J.G. Benda’s 2022 Rosso, 100% Sangiovese from just two hectares of biodynamically farmed vines high in the Passo del Lume Spento, around 520–550 metres, surrounded by woodland. John Benda and Zoë Johnson bought the vineyards in 2019, making this only their second release. Rocky galestro, limestone and sandstone soils, low yields and native-yeast fermentation help deliver a wonderfully transparent style.
