The 2022 Santa Ynez Valley Sauvignon Blanc captures California’s Central Coast in a glass, where the valley runs east–west, shifting from cool, foggy conditions in the west to warmer, drier vineyards inland. Producers such as Ojai and Santa Barbara Winery showcase this diversity: Ojai’s McGinley bottling, their 25th from the same vines, is 13% ABV, while Santa Barbara Winery’s 2022 is 14.4%, made entirely from Great Oaks Vineyard. The vintage brought an intense September heatwave, yet the wines retained freshness. Expect lime, grapefruit, passionfruit, citrus blossom and stony minerality, with vibrant acidity.
