2023 Giato (Nero d’Avola & Perricone, Centropassi- Sicily

The 2023 Giato Rosso, a vibrant blend of Nero d’Avola and Perricone from Centopassi, hails from the sun-drenched hills of western Sicily, near Palermo. This region’s terroir—characterised by limestone-rich soils and cooling sea breezes—gives the wine a lively structure and expressive character. Centopassi isn’t just any producer; it’s a cooperative working reclaimed Mafia land, turning defiance into fine wine. They farm organically across 65 hectares, with a strong commitment to social justice and sustainability.

The 2023 vintage was warm but balanced, producing fruit-driven wines with excellent ripeness and freshness. Expect juicy dark cherries, wild herbs, and a touch of black pepper on the nose, with a smooth palate framed by fine tannins and a savoury, mineral finish.
