The 2023 I Muri Primitivo from Vigneti del Salento is a vibrant expression of Puglia's sun-soaked terroir. Situated in the communes of Manduria and Sava, this region boasts red, calcareous clay soils rich in iron and minerals, ideal for cultivating Primitivo grapes. The vineyards, positioned at 70–100 metres above sea level, benefit from a warm, dry climate, producing wines with depth and character. The 2023 vintage experienced spring rains, which reduced yields but enhanced the concentration and health of the remaining grapes, leading to a balanced and expressive wine.
Winemaker Filippo Baccalaro, a native of Piemonte, has been crafting wines in Puglia for nearly two decades. His approach focuses on minimal intervention, allowing the rich, ripe flavours of the fruit to shine through. The grapes undergo a gentle pressing and fermentation process, resulting in a wine that is full-bodied with firm tannins and a harmonious balance.
The 2023 I Muri Primitivo presents a deep ruby red colour with violet reflections. On the nose, it offers intense aromas of red berries and subtle hints of spice. The palate is rich and full-bodied, with smooth tannins and a lingering finish.
