Heidi Schröck’s 2023 Junge Löwen captures the sunny, lake-influenced character of Rust in Burgenland, on the western shores of Lake Neusiedl. Her 10-hectare family estate, run with twin sons Johannes and Georg, farms sustainably on sandy loam, mica schist and gneiss. The 85% Blaufränkisch and 15% St Laurent blend comes from the Ruster vineyard, with the warm 2023 vintage delivering ripe fruit and lively freshness. Expect juicy cherry and raspberry, violet, black pepper, a touch of leather and earthy minerality, supported by smooth tannins. At 13% ABV, it’s a brilliantly versatile partner for grilled lamb, sausages, roast chicken or mushroom pasta.
