2023 Mâcon-Vergisson ‘La Roche’, Jessica Litaud

Mâcon-Vergisson ‘La Roche’ 2023 comes from Vergisson in Burgundy’s sunny southern Mâconnais, where limestone-rich soils give Chardonnay its trademark mineral snap. Jessica Litaud, a rising star with roots in the village, farms organically and works just 2.8 hectares herself; this cuvée comes from a tiny 0.48-hectare, 50-year-old clay-limestone parcel. She trained with Jean-Marie Guffens and Jean-François Ganevat, and her hands-off cellar approach lets the terroir do the talking. The warm, generous 2023 vintage delivered ripe fruit while retaining freshness. Expect white peach, citrus, flowers and hazelnut, with a silky, saline finish. Delicious with oysters, roast turbot, creamy chicken or Comté.
