The 2023 Pinot Noir from Jane Eyre hails from the cool, maritime climes of Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula—a region renowned for its top-drawer Pinot. With breezes off the Bass Strait and rich volcanic and clay soils, the terroir here gives depth, structure, and freshness to the wines. Jane Eyre, originally a Melbourne hairdresser turned Burgundy-trained winemaker, splits her time between France and Australia. Her Aussie wines are made in small batches, with around 3,000 bottles of this Pinot crafted—so it’s proper boutique stuff.
The 2023 vintage was cooler and later than usual, allowing for slow ripening and great aromatic intensity. Expect a nose of wild strawberries, rose petals, and a whisper of spice. The palate’s silky and pure, with cranberry, subtle oak, and a lovely mineral lift.
Pop it open with roast duck, grilled salmon, or a fancy mushroom Wellington. Lightly chilled, it’s a classy, modern Aussie take on Pinot.
