The 2023 Valcanzjira by Gulfi is a vibrant white blend from Sicily’s sun-drenched southeast, near the Iblei Mountains. Rooted in volcanic soils and cooled by sea breezes, this Carricante-Chardonnay combo reflects a classic Etna-meets-coastal terroir – crisp minerality meets Mediterranean charm. Gulfi, an organic, family-run estate founded in the 1990s, is celebrated for its no-irrigation philosophy and commitment to indigenous grapes. They farm around 70 hectares with a sharp focus on sustainability and terroir expression.
The 2023 vintage was warm but balanced, allowing the Carricante to retain its electric acidity while Chardonnay adds a rounded, stone-fruit softness. Expect lemon zest, saline edge, and a touch of peach, with a clean, lingering finish. It’s the sort of white you could happily sip on a sunny terrace or pair with grilled sea bass, lemony pasta, or a herby goat cheese salad. A cracking drop that’s Sicilian sunshine in a glass.
