From Fleurie in Beaujolais, the 2024 Clos de la Roilette is Gamay with plenty of personality. The domaine sits beside Moulin-à-Vent, where 12 hectares of vines grow on heavy clay, granite and manganese-rich soils. Alain Coudert has run the estate since 1987, after his father Fernand acquired it in 1967, and farms sustainably, with much vineyard work done by hand. The 2024 vintage is lighter than 2023 but wonderfully crunchy and vibrant, offering ripe raspberry, violet, spice and subtle earthy notes. Supple yet structured, it’s delicious with charcuterie, roast chicken, sausages, coq au vin or mushroom risotto.
