The 2024 Ribolla Gialla by Ronchi di Cialla comes from Colli Orientali del Friuli, more exactly the small Cialla Valley in Prepotto (province of Udine). The vineyards sit between about 130‑240 metres elevation, often on terraced slopes with south‑south‑east to south‑west exposures. Soils are mixed: sandstone, marls, and mineral rich stone giving a sharp mineral streak, particularly when paired with cooling alpine and Adriatic influences. The winemaking is quite hands‑on: slight maceration on skins for a couple of days, natural yeasts, ageing on lees for around three months with regular bâtonnage for texture.

On tasting, the wine is pale straw with greenish glints, vivacious and fresh. The nose shows apple and pear fruit, some delicate floral hints, and a flinty or stony minerality. In the mouth it’s crisp, with bright acid, clean fruit, and a lingering fresh finish. Not overly complex, but charming, balanced, and very drinkable.

As for pairings: think light and delicate foods. Ideal as an aperitif, or with seafood starters – oysters, mussels, prawns. First courses with vegetables, lightly grilled fish, or even good quality cold cuts (salumi). It also works nicely with vegetarian fare, or sushi/sashimi. Serve at around 10‑12°C to show off the freshness.
