Domaine Julien Cécillon’s Crozes-Hermitage Pierre Aiguille 2018 is a beautifully expressive Northern Rhône Syrah from a remarkable single vineyard perched behind the famous Hermitage hill. The Pierre Aiguille site forms a natural amphitheatre with south, east and west exposures, planted on granite soils studded with large quartz crystals, bringing both power and finesse to the wine. Julien and Nancy Cécillon founded their domaine in 2012, drawing on Julien’s family’s eleven generations of winemaking heritage in Tournon-sur-Rhône. The warm, generous 2018 vintage produced ripe yet fresh wines, and this 100% Syrah delivers layers of blackberry, black cherry, violet, cracked pepper and subtle smoky spice, wrapped in silky tannins and a long mineral finish. Rich but elegant, it is superb with roast lamb, venison, beef daube, wild mushrooms or mature hard cheeses.
